wind-chill factor
on a completely different topic for today, i had to leave jules' story sepparate. kids are too precious.
today it's -14 degrees celsius outside, but with the wind-chill factor...-31 degrees celsius. a whole four degrees celsius short of "skin freezing in a matter of minutes." FOUR. it's funny, because that really is a serious issues (freezing skin? minutes? rabidiculous!) but, after hearing the same warning on several different radio stations you just have to be thinking some mass email was sent out to everyone, outlining the risks and conditions, and they all picked the SAME one. i'm sure there were more on the list. regardless, keep bundled up out there!
i attempted to go into work early today, again. goal was to be in the office for 8:00 am. so i left my house 6:45ish. i had heard, amongst/before/after warnings of freezing skin, that the main route i take to work (DVP) was rammed, and closed in some areas. therefore causing a huge overflow onto side streets and rendering the DVP a parking lot. i decided on an alternate route, but soon discovered that so had everyone else, i got to work at 8:30.
i took lawrence all the way to leslie, where as many of you know breaks off beyond edward's garden, and continues again after bayview. the route leading from where lawrence ends and begins again, leads you through one of the many wealthy areas of north toronto, POST ROAD.
i'm putting along in ana, with the flow of traffic. which, when going through post raod can be a blessing and torture. the houses there are immense. i have on the most part gotten over the fact the homes on this street could house my neighbourhood in their front yard. or that they have fountains. or that they have iron gates bigger than my house. okay, really it sounds like i'm not over it, i am! really! in denial. shhhh. but really, i dont think i would be able to live in a neighborhood like that, let alone a house like that. i'd feel so alone. so in that sense. i'm over it. but on today's escapade through the land of ritz, i got a harder blow to the mentality. pulling out of a house basically fitting the same description as above, a bentley. not just any bentley though, a continental GT. it had me at hello, or xenon lights rather. the killer of the whole situation, i didn't even think of taking a picture. i was moving slowly enough, but i was so awe struck that it had never occured to me. oh well. i am now living on the bentley website.
i am sitting at my desk now at work, freezing. mom just called, asking how my back was feeling. it's been hurting from the snow shovelling, and the wrestling with the new snow plower. it still hurts, but i informed her that i was going to get bO to crack my back for me today.
"oh be careful with that, if he cracks it the wrong way you might get a disable!" a disable?? i am definitly not used to my mom speaking like a FOB, even though she is one. but that made me laugh and share the story with k. as a white guy dating my asian sister, he fully understands the humor in hearing my mom speak like that. man, i think anyone would find the humor in a filipino accent, it's priceless!!
my hula sister just told me that we're going to be in a talib kweli/mos def music video. after class this sunday, nuts! i'm looking forward to that!
as you can see by my verbal diarrhea, my day has been going not too shabby! too bad, work is getting in the way! he he! anyhoo, back to the grind.
