2005 into 2006

ok, so this is going to be lengthy. please, make yourself comfortable before moving on. ready? ok!

2005 : a reflection

"cheers! to a great beginning...." that is what i said at the beginning of last year. in terms of the year that has passed, a lot has happenned, 2005 came and went with many events.

i don't think it was a very good blogging year, but i did manage to make a few posts per month. picking and choosing which events were worth sharing with the internet, in some cases whether or not i was able to sit down and write anything down played a huge factor. i did a lot more face-to-face socializing, and in-turn resulted in me venting a lot of thoughts onto faces as opposed to my online norm. i redeisgned +brainwaves and let my new banner reflect my rediscovered love for hula.

hula, now becoming a bigger part of my life, is more demanding and challenging, but at the same time it's offering growth, strength, and evolving some of the best friendships beyond any expectations.

professionally, i made a promise to myself that would push me in the right direction to being more in-tune with creativity. some of these decisions, many will say, that i should have implemented a long time ago. i did some personal growth, and i think everyone needs to discover things on their own before anything can be done.

mentally, i had roller-coasterd from being happy to uncontrollably sad, even to a point of plateau where my emotions didn't do a darn thing for me. my depression was and still is, getting the best of me. i was even reading through a few posts leading up to the new year, a lot of things that i had posted, were often thoughts that would hammer at my brain, when i thought too much it became nonsense. my closest friends, once again, came through as an amazing support system.

the biggest event of 2005 for me was the death of my tita celine (RIP) i never knew what impact her death would have on me. a mental struggle that i had to deal with, where reality and the fantasy that the "core" would be around forever was constantly at odds. life continues, and i see the love between our families even more, i have never been so in awe.

2005, my best friends got engaged, and with that came a mid-year reflection on where i stand romantically in life. when i was younger, i had this idea that everything in my life would be in place by this age. that i would be married, or at least on the road to that. i'm not in any rush, and i see it still as my silly childhood fantasy, but it's still one of the circulating thought that invade my brain every so often. i have so much more growing to do, and so much more to experience.

the canadian government going through multiple scandals now teeters on backs of all canadians, waiting for voting day. this is the first time i have felt compelled to vote. feeling now that it's not only my right to do so, but now it's my duty to. i have never talked politics on this site, and don't intend on starting anytime soon. but if you are out there and are willing to heed my advice, educate yourself on the issues and vote on the 23rd.

i remember writing new year's eve '04, that the biggest news breakers were mostly natural disasters. again, 2005 was stricken with multiple environmental retalliations from the planet. many lost their homes and some their lives. our government can't be doing that bad, we don't the good ol' dubbya running things or people like kanye west making a deep impact on our youth. another thing to be grateful for.

i think for every significant down moment i have had in my life, i can find an up-side, the process may take a while, but regardless it is found., and the fact that i am able to at least come to a positive note on everything is a big improvement since the birth of 2005.

in the final days of 2005

festivities:
[12.29.05] cruz family residence
what to remember:
dumplings. ultra bust-a-move, i'm biscious or a bishes. going to distrikt. roll bounce. not going to distrikt. boogie's guitar antics, he needs to shower and figure out the name of that song. talks with leyni, rollin and bouncin.

what i'm trying NOT to remember (j.j):
the parentals & the magic mic. music noteoh carol. oh inday. singin' gloooorrriaaa. music note

[12.30.05] lopez family residence
what to remember:
musical recital. ROCK ON MIKO BAD BOY! _\m/ *fix bangs* the OTHER chocolate fountain, and with such a memory come the pretzels, the gummi bears and the cream puffs. ate lei's "super exciting" ttc story. the lumpia! not in the chocolate fountain, but on their own. i love velvet jackets, even ones with holes. tequila, oranges and cinnamon. kuya juerge's asian face syndrome. making my god-daughter smile. the insanity that is calling people on new year's day 12:00am, network is busy. staying up until we have to go to the airport. sleeping when we finally got home. the return of donald duck butts. the feet on kahu's face, kahu SO not waking up.

what i'm trying NOT to remember:
the magic mic, relived. need i say more?
did anyone else hear papa gene playing auld lang syne on the piano? or were we really that determined to sing along on the magic mic. i tell u, magic mic = pure evil.
the airport, saying good-byes and see you soons. making the sleepy trek back to the east end.

all in all the celebrations were fantastic. it's weird how it didn't really feel like holidays, but like back in the day when the "core' used to hang out on the regular. if it weren't for all the beautiful/different christmas trees, little porcelain villages and "not-frowned-upon" excessive alcohol consumption...who woulda knew? lol.

2006 : resolutions

i never used to do resolutions, as they're almost always the same thing year after year. walk more, lose weight, eat better...blah blah blah. although simple in it's idea, how many of us have not followed through with something like that? i'm taking a different approach. in this new year, i'm going to resolve to do things that will ultimately have a direct impact on my life and in the end maybe make me a better person:
  1. draw more
i draw on a daily basis, whether it be doodles at work, or just for work. all renderings completed on a computer. now while, i love doing this, it is my passion, i have lost a lot of my original ability to draw with pencil and paper. something, that if i look back on, i KNOW was something i was equally passionate about as CG.
  2. write more
this has never been a problem for me, until more recently, when superD had taken over again. concentrating is a lot harder. so with this i want to not just generally write more, but write more and better.
  3. be committed to getting better
this is pretty self explanatory. i know what i have to do to get better. i will start whatever the doctor tells me i have to, (even if it is pills.) this is one resolution i think i have jumped the gun on, i made an appointment weeks before christmas to see my doctor about my depression. it's tomorrow.
  4. get professionally better
my job is a love/hate relationship. where i love doing what i do, but i hate where i'm doing it. i'm not even sure i can say that actually. bottom line, i think i need a change in environment to help me get actively creative again. the promise is not to see another christmas party here. so good luck to me, and whoever sees my new resume!
so this is a HUGE improvement on my post for last year.

happy new year to all! and good luck with all the resolutions!
